An agency's denial to allow Escanaba to temporarily shut down its power plant is a good thing for the city, as well as the company buying the facility, according to Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator Inc.
By denying the shutdown, the agency is agreeing to pay for operating costs for a year.
During a joint meeting Wednesday, city council and the Electrical Advisory Committee were briefed on the favorable consequences of the recent denial by MISO, an interconnection agency that regulates power sales and buys energy from suppliers, like Escanaba, and sells it on the power market.
