Innovative Solar seeks approval of 90 MW of new N.C. projects

The company plans several unusually large North Carolina solar projects

Innovative Solar Systems LLC on May 29 filed with the North Carolina Utilities Commission for approval of two large solar projects, with these only the latest applications like this to be lodged by the company.

Innovative Solar 54 LLC plans a 50-MW (ac) solar photovoltaic system located at 4778 NC Hwy 55, which is at Kinston in Lenoir County, N.C. The $90m Innovative Solar 54 project is estimated to have a commercial operation date of Nov. 1, 2015. It will be interconnecting to Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) at the transmission level and selling electricity via a 15 year Power Purchase Agreement to Duke Energy under the Qualified Facilities Tariff, the application noted.

The $72.6m Innovative Solar 53 LLC project, also the subject of a May 29 application, will be a 40-MW (ac) photovoltaic facility located at Edinburgh Rd. at Dan Campbell Rd. at Red Springs in Hoke County, N.C. The project is estimated to have a commercial operation date of Nov. 1, 2015. The Innovative Solar 53 project will be interconnecting to Duke Energy at the transmission level and selling electricity via a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement to Duke Energy under the Qualified Facilities Tariff, said that application.

Innovative Solar Systems is a North Carolina developer of commercial and utility-scale solar projects, with a particular focus on utility-scale ground-mounted systems. Over the last three years, its management team has developed a number of renewable energy projects and currently has over 600 MW of projects in various approval stages with Duke Energy, said these and other applications that the company has filed lately with the commission for various projects.

Examples of other recent applications from the company are:

  • A May 7 application from Innovative Solar 40 LLC on a 25-MW (ac) photovoltaic system located at 252 NC 241 Highway, Beulaville, N.C., which is in Duplin County. This $45m project is estimated to have a commercial operation date of Nov. 1, 2015.
  • A May 7 application came from Innovative Solar 43 LLC for a 40-MW (ac) photovoltaic system located at 910 Brown Road, Ivanhoe, N.C., in Bladen County. This project is estimated to have a commercial operation date of Nov. 1, 2015, with a cost of $72.6m.
  • Innovative Solar 37 LLC on May 6 filed an application with the North Carolina commission for an 80-MW (ac) project at 2760 Old Sneedsboro Road at Morven, N.C., in Anson County. This $144m project would also be commercially operational around Nov. 1, 2015.
  • On May 6, Innovative Solar 38 LLC was the subject of an application for a 35-MW (ac) solar photovoltaic system located at 500 Red Hill Rd. in Mt. Olive in Duplin County, N.C. The $63m facility is estimated to have a commercial operation date of Nov. 1, 2015.
  • On May 5, the company applied on behalf of Innovative Solar 36 LLC for a certificate on an 80-MW (ac) photovoltaic system located at 300 George II Highway in Southport in Brunswick County, N.C. This $144m project is estimated to have a commercial operation date of Nov. 1, 2015.
  • Innovative Solar Systems on May 5 filed an application on behalf of affiliate Innovative Solar 42 LLC. Innovative Solar 42 will develop a $135m, 75-MW (ac) solar photovoltaic system located at 7550 Rufus Johnson Rd., Fayetteville, N.C., in Cumberland and Bladen counties. This project is estimated to have a commercial operation date of Nov. 1, 2015.
  • Innovative Solar 31 LLC on May 2 filed an application for a 35-MW (ac) photovoltaic project to be located in Bladen County, N.C. The $63m project would be located at 299 White Farm Lane in Bladenboro. The project is to be in-service around Nov. 1, 2015.
  • Innovative Solar Systems applied April 28 for a certificate for a $144m, 80-MW (ac) solar project to be located in Hope Mills, N.C. The project company is Innovative Solar 46 LLC. This project is estimated to have a commercial operation date of Nov. 1, 2015.
  • Innovative Solar 41 LLC was the subject of an application on April 25 for a $90m, 50-MW (AC) photovoltaic system located at 752 Turnbull Rd. in Garland in Bladen County. The Innovative Solar 41 project has a commercial operation date of Nov. 1, 2015.
