The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a public meeting for March 24 with Southern Co. and SCANA to discuss the initial test program and other issues related to Southern’s two Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear units under construction at the Vogtle site and SCANA’s two AP1000 units being built at the company’s V. C. Summer site.
The Vogtle site is near Waynesboro, Ga., about 26 miles southeast of Augusta, and the V. C. Summer site is near Jenkinsville, S.C., about 26 miles northwest of Columbia. The Vogtle site has two operating reactors and the V. C. Summer site has one.
The meeting with the two companies will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Vogtle Plant Support Center in Classroom 6. The Vogtle plant site is at 9034 River Road in Waynesboro. The NRC staff will be available to answer questions or discuss the agency’s inspection and oversight of the two construction projects.
There will also be a teleconference bridge line available by calling 800-621-8494 with the pass code 28530. Anyone wishing to participate by telephone is asked to contact LaDonna Suggs at 404-997-4539 or LaDonna.Suggs@nrc.gov to ensure there are enough lines available.
