Neal Cohen, a widely respected public affairs expert with APCO Worldwide Inc., will join the Nuclear Energy Institute on Jan. 1, 2017, as senior vice president of external affairs.
NEI announced the hire on Nov. 28.
Cohen will be responsible for developing and executing NEI’s strategic government affairs, communications and advocacy programs to achieve critical policy objectives for the nuclear energy industry.
During his 30 years with APCO, Cohen has led clients in the areas of global public affairs, government relations, communications, corporate responsibility, message development, and crisis and risk management. Most recently, Cohen was APCO’s vice chairman and president of its global strategy group.
Prior to joining APCO, Cohen worked as a legislative assistant to former Rep. Esteban Torres (D- Calif.) and served as an associate at the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations for the speaker of the California Assembly. He holds bachelor’s degrees from Claremont McKenna College and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley.
